Lisa McMann is Awesome

This week Lisa McMann’s Gone tour stopped in Decatur, GA at Little Shop of Stories. Personally, I was thrilled, because Lisa and I got to make pals back at the Austin Teen Book festival, last year in October. (We sat next to each other at the signing table, and I gawked and admired while she smiled and signed and chatted with a HUGE line of eager readers. She was even nice to the six or eight people who wanted me to sign copies of Pure for them.) I was looking forward to seeing her bright face again, and to show her Decatur and, of course, my favorite bookstore in the world. We had a great time (partly because of her beautiful, shining, flippy hair), and once again Lisa demonstrated why she is so unbelievably popular. For one, she is so generous and genuine with everyone she meets: talking, chatting, sharing, laughing–taking real time to talk with everyone in line. She is like a fabulous, genuine person and not a stuffy writer holding you at a distance. Second, of course, her writing is great. We got sneak peeks of two projects she’s working on, and she left us all chomping at the bit to hear and see more.

It was extra-wonderful having Lisa come to the South (we had folks driving in from hours away), because, due to her signing, I got to meet two groups of awesome readers I never would have known about (only because I still pretty much have that Internet Idiocy disease). The Midnight Snack Book Club is a book club of dynamic women who all have to read their books late at night (hence the name), and Chimera Critiques is a dedicated set of ladies working on their own writing, reviewing books, interviewing authors and also helping other writers with their work. As a fellow Simon & Schuster author, Lisa was completely sweet and introduced me to everyone–not just as the LSOS bookseller, but as an author, which was astronomically great!

Sharing the spotlight with Lisa (and, you know, just being in the same space as her) definitely rules! Thanks, Lisa, for a great visit, and good luck with the rest of your tour!

A Glimpse of Things to Come

So, Valentine’s Day is hovering nearby, which is exciting to me anyway because I love Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to send my friends and family messages of sweetness. (Who says V-Day is just for lovers? Send cards to anyone! Buy yourself as many boxes of Whitman’s as you want–they make classy dessert!) But it is ALSO very exciting for me, because it means I get to load up on a bunch of those Necco conversation hearts, so that I have them to pass out when I am signing THIS when it comes out on May 4th:

Becca has been head-over-heels for Alec from the instant they met. He’s a brainy jock with a poet’s heart—in other words, perfect for her.

Camille is careful with her words and protective of her heart, especially since Chicago. Then a new boy in her new town catches her off guard with a surprise kiss.

Too bad that new boy is Becca’s boyfriend, Alec.

Camille and Becca have never met, but their lives will unravel and intertwine in surprising ways as they deal with what happens after the kiss.
